Matt Murray is a Dora Award–nominated book writer, lyricist, and playwright. Musical credits include: Maggie (co-book, co-music, co-lyric), which premiered at Theatre Aquarius, co-produced with the Charlottetown Festival. Maggie had its American premiere in 2024 at the Goodspeed Opera House. Grow (book writer), Grand Theatre. Going Under (book writer). Next up for Grow is a brand new production at Montreal's Segal Centre in spring of 2026.
Matt wrote six Ross Petty Holiday Pantomimes - Peter's Final Flight!, Lil Red Robin Hood, The Wizard of Oz, and A Christmas Carol, all at Toronto’s Elgin and Winter Garden Theatres, as well as two digital productions: There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays and Alice in Winterland. Matt also wrote the Canadian Stage Company’s last two holiday musicals, a brand-new adaptation of The Wizard of Oz and Robin Hood, in association with Ross Petty Productions. He is set to write Canadian Stage's 2026 holiday musical.
Plays include: Myth Of The Ostrich; Remember, Maggy? (with Carol Anne Murray); and The Time Capsule (formerly Chronicles of Sarnia), which premiered at the Blyth Festival and opened Theatre Aquarius’ 2025 season.
