Mary Francis Moore

Originally from Thunder Bay, Mary Francis Moore is an award-winning actor, director, playwright and the Artistic Director of Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, ON.

With collaborators Annabel Fitzsimmons and Alison Lawrence, Mary Francis co-created the hit production Bittergirl—both the original play and its musical adaptation. Bittergirl has enjoyed successful runs across Canada, London’s West End, and New York. Bittergirl: Getting Over Getting Dumped was later published by Penguin Canada, Plume US and Distibudora, Brazil.

Recognized for championing new works Mary Francis has dramaturged and directed numerous plays that have toured across Canada, the United States and the U.K.  She has played in a key role in the development of new musicals at Theatre Aquarius, Goodspeed Musicals, The Charlottetown Festival, Sheridan College’s CMTP and Musical Stage Company. As Artistic Director, she launched the National Centre for New Musicals at Theatre Aquarius in 2023, creating a one-of-a-kind Canadian incubator to nurture and develop new musical theatre from concept through to presentation.
