The Gig

Please welcome to the stage Terri Tucker, Fonda deBehrs, and Ms. XXXBox!

Three drag queens have been hired to perform at a private function. The catch? Tonight’s event is a campaign launch for Laura Nelson, a brand new Conservative candidate in the upcoming election. And Laura just so happens to be Terri's sister.

As the queens struggle to agree on how to proceed, the campaign manager Karyn attempts to send a message of inclusivity to voters and win the seat. Throw in an unimpressed venue technician and a long-standing Member of Parliament who’s been forced into retirement and, honey, this gig will have you “gagging!”

The Gig is a contemporary comedy-drama about politics, drag, family, and what we do when we don’t see eye-to-eye.

Production History

The Gig premiered at Theatre Aquarius (Hamilton, Ontario) in 2023. The World Premiere was directed by Morris Panych. The play was originally commissioned by Alberta Theatre Projects and developed in the ATP Playwrights’ Unit.
