Sisters of ‘78

By Kristen Da Silva

In 1978, a switch flipped—and an entire community felt the shock.

Sisters of ’78 is a fierce, funny, and deeply moving new ensemble drama inspired by the Fleck Strike in Centralia, Ontario.

As women at a small auto-wiring plant face unsafe work, harassment, and a company that refuses to listen, tensions spill beyond the factory gates, dividing neighbours and testing friendships.

Widely recognized as a pivotal moment in both Canadian women’s history and Canadian labour history, the Fleck Strike reshaped conversations about workplace dignity, solidarity, and collective power. Sisters of ’78 brings the human heartbeat of this story vividly to the stage.

Production History

Sisters of ’78 is scheduled to have its World Premier at the Blyth Festival on June 12, 2026 and will tour to Theatre Aquarius where it opens the 2026/2027 season.
