Onion Skins and Peach Fuzz: The Farmerettes

By Alison Lawrence

During WW2, young women from all over the country answered the call "They can't fight if they can't eat" and went into the fields in the Niagara Region and Southwestern Ontario to bring in the harvest. Onion Skins and Peach Fuzz tells the story of these mostly high school girls who left their homes - some for the first time - to work hard, play hard, and learn who they were, sometimes changing their lives forever, all in the shadow of world conflict.

Based on the non-fiction book Onion Skins and Peach Fuzz: Memories of Ontario's Farmerettes by Shirleyan English and Bonnie Sitter.
