Birgitte Solem

Playwright

Birgitte Solem has worked at theatres across the country, and has spent several seasons over the last twenty years at The Blyth Festival, including performing in and co-creating The Pigeon King and as a playwright, debuting her first full-length mystery Resort to Murder, top seller of the 50th anniversary season. She got her start in the mystery genre writing site-specific dinner theatre mysteries for Mysteriously Yours in Toronto.

Birgitte is co-founder of  Hope and Hell Theatre Co., starring in Disgraced (Mirvish Entertainment and The Citadel Theatre). With over 30 film and television credits, Birgitte was a series regular on Malory Towers for CBBC, appeared in the recent TIFF award winning short Motherland and for two years was the voice of Volvo Canada.

Upcoming acting credits include Apples in Winter at Here for Now Theatre, and Murder on the Orient Express at Theatre Aquarius.

Resort to Murder is not only a delicious play on words, it’s also a rip-roaring murder mystery with more twists and turns than a New York pretzel.

Slotkin Letter

Thanks to sprightly dialog and well-drawn characters there are plenty of laughs in Resort To Murder… a worthy addition to the list of the best of the genre… I remember fondly examples like Liars At A Funeral, Bed and Breakfast, and Cakewalk. Resort To Murder joins the list as one of Blyth’s most successful light summer entertainments.
