Luke Reece

Playwright / Screenwriter

Luke Reece is a poet, playwright, director and producer who strives to share engaging and nuanced stories with audiences through his work. Luke is the Associate Artistic Director at Soulpepper Theatre, and has worked at some of the country’s most storied and celebrated theatre companies, including Obsidian Theatre, Young People’s Theatre, Caravan Theatre, Theatre Passe Muraille and The Stratford Festival. He is one of Ontario’s most decorated slam poets, with national and provincial titles taking him to represent Canada at the 2019 World Cup of Poetry Slam where he placed 4th. Most recently, he won the ByBlacks People’s Choice Award for Best Actor in 2024 for the performance in his solo show As I Must Live It, for which he also garnered comparisons to Lin-Manuel Miranda in The Globe and Mail. In 2021 Luke was included in York University’s Top 30 Changemakers Under 30 list. Beyond live-performance, his body of work includes a radio play, an animated short, and a praised short film featured on CBC titled Notice. He is a lover of both prehistoric and contemporary raptors.
