The Trials of Maggie Pollock

By Beverley Cooper

The play is based on the true story of Maggie Pollock, who is living on a farm with her brother when she is charged with witchcraft. It is 1919. Once she is charged, the by-the-book enforcers of the judicial system must face their own complicated relationship to life after death and the “crafty sciences”. The play asks; do we have a presence after death? Is Maggie really a witch? Or is this just another swipe at a woman with unusual powers? Part "The Crucible", part ghost story, the play is thought provoking and entertaining.
