Espejos: Clean

By Christine Quintana

ADAPTED & TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH BY PAULA ZELAYA-CERVANTES

The lives of two women from very different worlds collide in the illusory paradise of a Mexican resort. Sarah, a Canadian wedding guest, is a half-empty shot of tequila. Adriana, a meticulous and vivacious hotel floor manager, finds solace in tidying things up. At first glance, they seem like familiar character archetypes, but a closer look reveals the anxiety they both try to hide. When their worlds collide, everything they've been hiding comes into sharp focus.

This is a bilingual play in English and Spanish, in which each woman speaks her own language and shares her unique experiences directly with the audience. Their infinitely different realities are mirrored in parallel, coming together to reveal and magnify a mutual pain. Through nuanced dialogue and surprisingly comic monologues, Quintana and Zelaya-Cervantes place feminine strength and solidarity under a microscope, to striking effect.
