Athabasca
By David S. Craig & Richard Greenblatt
A fast paced, torn-from-the-headlines thriller, Athabasca is a battle of wills between two men with radically different priorities. In the executive suite of SolOil, Tom Patinaud, North America’s most effective oil lobbyist, welcomes Max Chrznowski, an unassuming nature writer, for one last interview. It all goes horribly wrong and exactly to plan. Max has smuggled a powerful, home-made bomb. To protect the human race from climate devastation, he intends to destroy himself, the building and everyone in it unless Tom can talk him out of it. What follows turns the audience’s sympathies back and forth between the two protagonists as expediency battles necessity. As we move inexorably towards Max's detonation deadline, further twists and revelations make the audience wonder: what exactly is Max's plan? How guilty of climate devastation is Tom? How implicated are we all?
